From LA.com:Inside the largest design center on the West Coast, 130 showrooms feature some of the most cutting-edge fabrics, flooring and furniture on the market today.Designed by acclaimed architect Cesar Pelli, this massive cobalt complex is fondly referred to as the Blue Whale. Each showroom has its own admittance policy: Some are open to the design trade, some to the public consumer. The Center's outdoor space is open to the public; seven event spaces constantly bustle with private soirees. The PDC also offers lectures and seminars, as well as design and buying services (the latter is for those without the professional credentials to enter certain showrooms). Symbols of the unique discoveries inside take the shape of a huge silver lamp and chair standing tall upon the sculptural lawn.
